Bird Watchin'

As per a previous post, my husband has a family on the side...a bird family. It's been one week. No one thought they would survive. I'm talking about the internet and the experts who were giving him advice. They all said the birds would die within a couple of days.

They do not know my husband. He leaves nothing unfinished.

The birds have to eat every 45 minutes. So my hubby takes them everywhere with him. He takes them to work, he brought them over my parents, while we went swimming. He did not go golfing this weekend because of the birds. Hmmm...he doesn't even do that for his real kids.

I'm actually babysitting this morning, while he's golfing. I recieved a bird feeding lesson, which I failed. First of all they were eating canned dog food. Now they are eating dog food, baby oatmeal, and mashed banana. I have to feed them with a pair of tweezers, which have to be held straight down into their tiny beaks. Apparently I was holding them on too much of an angle. The birds would not feed.
Anyway are getting so big. Their feathers are growing and they flap their wings when you feed them.
I'm praying that I don't catch my hubby trying to teach them to fly.

See if I had brought baby birds home my wife would have said "WTF are you doing with those???" Followed by "Hell no I'm babysit your birds!" Followed by "You want me to feed them? Are you insane???"

This is amazing. And by amazing I mean: strange and weird.

alright, alright...here's the deal with the birds....i bought 3 trailers from a company in Pa. i brought them to my yard in NJ. inside were 2 baby birds, eyes closed and no feathers (2-3 days old) mommy is still flying around in pa looking for king and pin. i choose not to shut the door and let them die but to take them in and try and raise/release them. total time is usually 3-4 weeks from hatch. currently both are great..75% feathered. contact is minimal to prevent imprinting on them. i feed them every hour during daylight hours. there's nothing strange or wierd about this...actually i'll pat my self on the back and say job well done. you just saved the lives of two birds....so you can all go scratch.
